Bargate Property Ltd is showcasing plans for the redundant former shopping centre at a one day public exhibition later this month.
The local community will be able to view and comment on the proposals, which will include new shops, cafes and restaurants alongside significant public open space. There are also plans for new student accommodation and private apartments. The plans are being put on display, ahead of their submission to Southampton City Council, at 16 East Bargate on 19 May 2016, 3pm-7pm.
James Burchell, on behalf of Bargate Property Ltd:
“We have spent the last six months, following the first consultation event, developing our thinking for this city centre site. Through detailed conversations and negotiations with Historic England and the Council we have been able to create a vision for the site that will breathe new life into this part of the city. This includes designing the scheme to create important routes through the site opening up links to Debenhams to the East and the Parks to the north.
We look forward to talking to local residents, business and stakeholders next week about the regeneration of this site and the positive contribution it will make to Southampton.”
City Council Leader, Simon Letts, said:
“Next week’s event is a great opportunity to view the propproposals for this site before they are submitted to the council and I encourage anyone who’s interested in the project to attend. This is an exciting time for the regeneration of Southampton and developments such as this one will play an important role in the transformation of the city.”
Following the event, Bargate Property Ltd, will review the comments received and finalise the proposals ahead of submitting a planning application to the City Council.
Information on the proposals will be available to view on the dedicated project website www.bargatequarter.co.uk.
