Southampton scoops top prizes at South Coast Property Awards 2017

The city of Southampton has again received the highest accolades in this year’s South Coast Property Awards. Following on from last year’s success, buildings, businesses, organisations and individuals in the city have all been recognised as part of the annual coming together of the Solent and South Coast property sector.

Highlights of the evening included the award for Development of the Year, which was won by the new WestQuay South development. Regeneration Project of the Year was presented to the Meridian Waterfront build, Deal of the Year went to the Ford Site and the Workplace of the Year award was presented to Southampton Science Park.

There was also recognition for Dawn Baxendale, Chief Executive of Southampton City Council, who scooped the award for "Outstanding Contribution". The award is given to the ‘stand-out person who has promoted and created success in the execution of property strategy across the region and, more importantly, has been involved with the promotion of the South Coast as a great place in which to do business.’

The acknowledgement of Dawn’s role in the up-turn in economic growth in Southampton comes five years into the delivery of the Council’s 20 year Master Plan, and follows on from last year’s success when Southampton won the Town/City of the Year category at the same awards.

Dawn’s brainchild, the Master plan has already secured almost £2 billion of committed investment into Southampton with a further £1 billion being actively targeted. It is the realisation of this plan through the innovative approach the council have taken to working with the private sector that is giving investors and developers confidence that Southampton is a city in which they can do business.
