Stakeholders gather at Network for progress update

Network stakeholders event 7 December

The Network co-working space has been showcased at an exclusive closed door event at the Marlands shopping centre. Located on the second floor, the event was attended by over 70 VIP stakeholders and key local influencers who gathered to see the high end fit-out work that’s been undertaken.

Southampton City Council’s £1.3m development will provide a new and cutting-edge space, offering a unique and bespoke environment that will support creative, digital and knowledge based entrepreneurs by providing the city’s first collaborative, co-working environment.

Key speakers addressed the attendees to deliver a progress report and underline what the development will achieve.

Councillor Christopher Hammond, Leader of Southampton City Council said: “Fantastic progress is being made with the refurbishment, and we are already receiving a lot of interest in the co-working space. We look forward to Network providing Southampton’s business community with some much needed space for creativity and growth, supporting progress and employment opportunities in the creative and digital technology and business sectors for residents and graduates”.

Alex Urquhart, Design Director of HPW Architecture Ltd said: “The scheme is developing well with the efforts of the design team being manifested into reality by the contractors. The results so far are starting to look impressive and give an indication of how great the final scheme will be.”

Craig Abraham, Project Manager at Concept Building Services Ltd commented: “We are very proud and excited to be a part of such an interesting and challenging project, working alongside a great design and client team in the heart of the city. This is the third co-working space project we have been a part of as a company and we cannot wait to see first-hand the benefit it brings to graduates, entrepreneurs and SMEs in the city.”

Jon Petch, Account Director at Cogeco Peer 1, said: “We are very proud to be the partner of choice delivering Wi-Fi and high-speed connectivity for this project. When Network officially opens, its tenants are going to be fast-moving technology start-ups and scale-ups and they will need a powerful network they can rely on. Cogeco Peer 1 is excited to meet this need with best-in-class technology that will enable them to maximise their potential."

In addition, Ellandi, the asset managers of The Marlands and the UK’s leading manager of Community Shopping Centres, have invested to create a new dedicated entrance from Portland Terrace, installing new lifts and replacing the windows in the 12,500 sq ft second floor space.

The state of the art development, combined with the uniquely flexible membership options that are available, has already led to a high level of interest from potential tenants. Network will be ready for occupation in January 2019, with the official opening in February.
