Tudor House and Garden
21 September 2019 – 23 February 2020
This exhibition will display an array of finds uncovered by Southampton’s Archaeology Unit during recent excavations on Queensway in advance of the Bargate Quarter development. The dig uncovered important remains of Southampton’s Roman and Late Saxon (10th – 11th century) past, including fragments of Roman pottery and a Saxon stone anchor, which is believed to be the first found on an archaeological site in the UK. Other finds include a spindle whorl for spinning thread, pottery imported from France and two ice skates carved from horse and cow bones.
