Southampton to launch commercial strategy to become UK City of Culture 2025

Mayflower Theatre refurbishment

On Thursday 17 September between 10:30 – 12:30 Southampton will launch its commercial strategy to become UK City of Culture 2025. At this virtual event businesses will learn about the opportunities to get involved and aboard the bid. Achieving UK City of Culture 2025 will provide a lasting legacy for the city and wider region.

Although the event is virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions, key note speakers will present from the Mayflower Theatre - one of the many jewels in Southampton’s cultural crown. At the event businesses will learn about the opportunities to invest in the bid over a 6-year period. There is a lot to gain from becoming a UK City of Culture. When Hull was UK City of Culture in 2017 it added £300 million to their tourism market and up to £17 million gross value added to their local economy. Southampton’s UK City of Culture 2025 bid, if successful, will be forward thinking and look to deliver similarly substantial economic impacts.
