Calls for feedback on new Economic & Green Growth strategy

Green Growth 1200x600

The growth and recovery of the city’s economy will be the focus of a new ten-year strategy that outlines our vision of how we will work for and with businesses and communities, so that everyone benefits from improved opportunities and outcomes.

Our proposed Economic & Green Growth Strategy lays out our draft plans to build on Southampton’s ongoing economic growth and Green City agendas. The plan looks at how we can restore and renew our economy as a greener, fairer and healthier city and how we can strive to limit the negative impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on our local economy.

We’re asking everyone who lives and works in Southampton to give us their views on this new draft strategy as part of a seven week public consultation, closing on 26 January 2021. To view the draft strategy and complete the consultation please visit our website.

We’re already engaging with key business sectors through our Business Task Force roundtable discussions, providing an opportunity to feed into this strategy. However, we’re especially keen to get responses from local business as well as residents and people who work in or visit the city.

The consultation is an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft strategy. This is a two-way process and we want to understand where you see the opportunities and challenges for Southampton at this critical time. We want to know how we can best work together to maximise opportunities for sustainable growth for all.

At the heart of this draft strategy are four key principles:

  • People, employment and skills
  • Supporting and growing local businesses
  • Growth through sustainable place shaping
  • Growing an International City

We believe that by focusing on these core fundamentals we will continue to build on and strengthen Southampton’s ongoing economic growth. We’re now asking for the views and feedback of those who will be directly affected by this strategy.
