ITV’S Fred Dinenage cuts the ribbon at Meridian Waterside

Specialist housebuilder and brownfield developer Inland Homes has welcomed ITV Meridian’s legendary broadcaster Fred Dinenage MBE to the launch of its flagship Meridian Waterside development.

Dignitaries from Southampton City Council joined Fred at the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was held at the site of the former Meridian TV Studios on the banks of the River Itchen on Friday 10th February.

Inland Homes has already sold more than 30 per cent of homes in the first phase off plan and off site, and 80 per cent of these sales have been to first time buyers taking advantage of the Government’s successful ‘Help to Buy’ scheme.

As well as cutting the ribbon, Fred unveiled a commemorative plaque which will be placed at the site for posterity. He also revealed the stunning new view from the show complex for the very first time. Fred spent many years reporting from the site when it was a TV studio, so he was delighted to launch the show complex, which features a model of the scheme and a show home highlighting the clever design and effective use of space within these properties.

Fred said; “It has saddened me over the years to see this site, which has so many memories and so much potential, lie empty for so long. Inland has a really exciting regeneration project planned here and I can see why so many people have decided to ‘buy-in’ early.”

Inland Homes’ Chief Executive Stephen Wicks said; “It was a real pleasure to have Fred launch our exciting new show complex. With the many happy memories he has of the site, it’s important to us that he approves of our scheme. It’s really exciting for us to be a part of this huge regeneration.”

Development is well under way on the 350 home community, which will contain one, two and three bedroom apartments and three bedroom houses in this first phase. Inland Homes is planning four phases in total, all set within courtyard gardens, as well as convenience store and commercial space. There will be a new publicly accessible park set alongside the Northam Road, enabling access to a new riverside walk.

As part of the flagship development flood protection will be created across the river frontage. Connectivity to the waterfront will also be prioritised, with new roads, redesigned streets and widened public walkways opening up this part of the river to the public for the first time.

Meridian Waterside is one of Southampton’s main regeneration opportunities and will form a new gateway into the city from the east. Inland Homes is also the approved developer for the Chapel Riverside site, located down the River Itchen at the former town depot in Southampton, in conjunction with Southampton City Council. The two sites when developed will kick-start the long term regeneration plans for Itchen Riverside, as identified by Southampton City in its ‘VIP’ programme.

Prices at Meridian Waterside start from £147,950 for a one bedroom apartment, £179,950 for a two bedroom apartment and £249,950 for a three bed ground floor apartment. The three bedroom houses start from £309,950.
