  • Southampton is the largest employment centre on the central South coast with around 110,000 jobs

  • Southampton has 102,000 economically active residents out of a working age population of 136,673

  • Job growth will be concentrated in part-time and female work, which are expected to grow by 1200 and 16000 respectively between 1997 and 2008

  • Financial and business services are expected to drive future employment growth in the city region and are expected to employ a further 10,000 workers over the next decade

  • The local job centre plus reports that of the numbers of registered unemployed a very high proportion find employment within 12 weeks
