Southampton City Council is the local education authority and has responsibility for community secondary schools within the Southampton local authority boundary.
All community secondary schools are comprehensive and have a designated catchment area for children aged from 11 to 16 and cater for children of all abilities. Most schools are for both girls and boys but there are also single sex schools.
