To identify the reasons for low economic activity in Southampton

  • Research into barriers to employment for various groups in the city


    • Women

    • Residents in wards with high levels of deprivation

    • Older workers

    • Disabled people

    • People with mental health difficulties

    • Lone parents

    • Homeless people

    • People from ethnic minorities, (refugees and asylum seekers are included in a separate study)

    • Long term unemployed

    • Young unemployed

    • Offenders and ex-offenders

    • People lacking basic and key skills


  • Workshops and round table discussions bringing together local, regional, and national experts to discuss Southampton's key employment issues


  • A final conference to disseminate the research findings
